Hi, I’m Lucille. The creek in the backyard of my childhood home first drew me to the outdoors. I spent hours wading through the shallow water, searching for crayfish and listening for frogs. As a kid, my family always went on Sunday walks in the woods, where I found every rock scramble and log hop to be a grand adventure. My dad taught my brother and me to stop and listen to the trees.
Professionally, I worked with G Adventures in Central America before spending four years with Backroads Travel, where I led trips, researched and designed itineraries, and helped train and mentor new guides. This experience has helped me specialize in guiding solo travelers, families with young kids, and first-time adventurers. Over the years, I’ve led a wide range of hiking, cycling, and multi-sport trips, helping people connect with the outdoors in a meaningful way.
One of my favorite adventures was a solo bike tour in the Auvergne region of France. I’d always been curious about the area, shaped by ancient volcanoes, and was especially eager to sample all the Cantal cheese! I packed my panniers and hopped on a train to Clermont-Ferrand, where I biked a five-day loop, piecing together the itinerary as I rode. I stayed with fantastic hosts in charming chambres d’hôtes, sharing family-style dinners with paragliders and hikers. I biked three big mountain passes in one day and quenched my thirst at the bottom of the last one with a delicious local brew. Afterward, I took naps under massive trees, lulled to sleep by the sound of cow bells. It was pure magic.
